How do I mount a TV on the wall without mistakes?

To mount a TV without mistakes, confirm three things before you drill: the studs or the right anchors for your wall type, a mount rated for your TV size and weight, and the exact height marked and approved first. Get those right and the TV lands level, holds for good, and you avoid patching extra holes.

The steps before the drill touches the wall

  1. Check the wall type. Drywall needs studs or heavy-duty anchors. Plaster and masonry need the right bits and fasteners.
  2. Match the mount to your TV size and weight, and to the VESA hole pattern on the back.
  3. Mark the height and spot, step back, and approve it before any hole. Eye level from the couch is the usual target.
  4. Plan the cords. A paintable cord cover goes on the wall. Running power inside the wall needs an electrician.
  5. Drill, mount, and check level once the marks are approved.

Why one wrong hole costs a week

A stud finder can mislead, and an anchor in the wrong spot pulls out under weight. A missed mark means a patch, a sand, a prime and a paint touch-up. Measuring twice and drilling once is the whole game.
